Life Is Happening Through You
A few years back, I read a book called Power vs. Force, by David R Hawkins. I was enamored by it, because he had essentially created a scale of measuring consciousness. He was able to encapsulate the various levels of human energy and consciousness in a simple continuum that goes from force to power, and he explains the whole concept brilliantly in his book.
“Force” is the lower energy of fear and control (from the ego) and “power” is more from the spiritual level of enlightenment and creative consciousness. The lowest level of force really occurs through the perspective that life is happening “to you,” which puts us in the energy of being controlled, victimized, perpetrated, attacked, and so forth.
The scale goes incrementally up to a much more spiritual energy, which is really more of a perspective that life is happening “through you,” empowering us to take responsibility for our lives and to change our reactions, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to shift our outcomes.
Changing How You Are
In my blog “Change How You Are, Not Who You Are,” I explain that who we are is really our core essence and identity, and that there is nothing to “fix.” However, how we are is something that we can change, because it’s about our attitudes and behaviors. When we change our perspective from life happening “to us” to life happening “through us,” we are able to change how we are. We can look at what we are doing to contribute to, co-create, or even fully create circumstances and situations in our lives. The more we are able to do that, our level of conscious awareness increases, and we are brought into a state of peace, serenity, and well-being.
Whenever you think that life is happening to you, this is a signal for you to shift that frame to see how life is happening through you in that moment so you can find the opportunities within your circumstances. You might need to grieve or set boundaries, and you can react in a healthier way that helps you grow from the experience and become empowered by your highest Self rather than controlled by an old fear-based response.
Shifting the Perspective
The old saying “kill or be killed,” can be adapted to “control or be controlled,” which is a common framework we tend to operate in. This is a lower-level energy based on fear, and it is not a path to freedom or fulfillment. We can shift out of this by embracing the “life is happening through me” frame, and taking the necessary steps to express ourselves and process whatever emotions we are going through in the moment.
When we operate in this empowered way, we have a cleaner and clearer spiritual energy. We are able to forgive, accept, have compassion, and show empathy to ourselves and anyone else who needs it. When we live like this, our mental and emotional state of being increases. I invite you to try this perspective shift and see how your life begins to change right before your very eyes.
